Hear ye, hear ye. All gather round and put your feet up for this one will knock you flat on your arse. We have an absolute belter from a young and up and coming artist who goes by the name C-IV. We were so impressed with the work exhibited by him that we decided to give you all a greater insight into who he is and what he does.
NAME: Clyde Ernest Hawkins IV. My producer alias is C-IV (pronounced See Four) because my first name starts with a C and I am the fourth Clyde in my family. The name doubles as both my name and an explosive.
AGE: 19
LOCATION: Southern California, United States
HOW DID YOU FIRST HEAR ABOUT DUBSTEP:
One of my friends said, “Hey! Listen to this!” so I did and I loved it. The first ever dubstep song i heard was either Pro Nails by Rusko, or Ginger Pubes by Cookie Monsta, don’t remember which came first.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY HELP FROM ANY OTHER PRODUCERS? IF SO WHO:
No, not really. I have been given small bits of advice here and there. There are plans for collaborations with Widelows and Davr. Very big things in the making.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES HAS YOUR MUSIC GIVEN YOU:
I am still in the very early stages of growth as a producer. At this point I have just met other producers over the internet.
DO YOU PLAY AT EVENTS:
I do not. I currently am jobless, therefore I have no turntables or mixer. I have had a couple requests to play at events so far, but had to turn them down sadly. I am learning how to mix though from a couple good friends.
ANY PRODUCERS YOU ARE CURRENTLY EXCITED ABOUT:
I am very excited about Reso’s forthcoming album. I am always excited to hear new releases from Downlink and Datsik. KOAN Sound has been coming out with some really original stuff as well.
BEEN TO ANY SICK NIGHTS RECENTLY?:
My car is broken, so that would be another no. I did attend the Electric Daisy Carnival on Saturday only. Had to miss Excision and Jack Beats =( A friend bought my ticket though so I can’t complain.
WHAT PRODUCTION SOFTWARE DO YOU USE, AND YOUR SETUP:
I use FL Studio 9 and Native Instruments Massive for my sounds. I am currently running a roughly 8 year old HP Pavilion with 512 MB of RAM, 2.53 GHz of processor speed, and a 70 GB hard drive, that of which is down to 8 GB… Very slow, very slow. I have no midi keyboard, no midi controllers, no studio monitors. I have a 400 watt Pioneer stereo system plugged into my computer.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY:
I would like to say thank you to Squitty Bubbler for featuring me. I would like to say thank you to all the producers that have helped me, if at all. I would also like to give a shout out to my good friend Danny Darkoski. He is my future DJ mentor and he runs a dance club here in my city of Simi Valley. I get to hear all of my latest tracks dropped in front of all my friends and that wouldn’t be possible without Danny. Check out the club’s website here www.phoenix.hlrev.com
Also i would like to mention that I don’t just listen to dubstep. I listen to all genres of music and I produce all genres of music. I want to fuse and bend genres more in the future rather than the plain old dubstep, glitch hop we’ve been hearing. My future sound is something like Jack Beats, meets Datsik and Downlink, meets Reso, meets DaVIP. (Okay, im not THAT skilled obviously lol but I plan on fusing dubstep, fidget house, drum & bass, and breaks into one dirty, danceable sound.) Thank you to anyone who has read all this!
