Fabian is a new find for us here at SquittyBubbler. We thought we would give him the spanish inquisition style interview to see if he’s got the plums to back up his beefy tracks. This track in particular reminded me of walking around listening to my portable cassette player in the 90′s, then falling in a meat blender feet first.
NAME:
Hugo Fabian Kelly
AGE:
21
LOCATION:
London
HOW DID YOU FIRST HEAR ABOUT DUBSTEP:
I was originally a total DNB fiend as were all of my friends but one day, some years ago now, a mate brought his iPod back from Kent Uni filled with this new ‘dubstep’ and cranked it up at a house party. I had always been into dub and electronic music so hearing this new stuff just completely blew my mind! From that moment on dubstep simply shot everything else out of the picture.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY HELP FROM ANY OTHER PRODUCERS? IF SO WHO:
The last bit of help I got was on the mixdown of my track Stomp by my friend Oskar who also dabbles with production, we collaborated on the 762mm tune but were talking years ago here. All the latest tracks I’ve strung together alone.
WHAT OPORTUNITIES HAS YOUR MUSIC GIVEN YOU:
Its great to get recognition and support from the online community. God I sound like some old wanker. I’m getting lots of remix offers and some openings to do some collabs which is wicked, also some record deals look like they may be in the pipeline – score!
DO YOU PLAY AT EVENTS:
Afraid not, not yet anyhow! I used to be in an Indy band back when everything was black and white but that’s history.
ANY PRODUCERS YOU ARE CURRENTLY EXCITED ABOUT:
DatsiK has done some of the sickest dubstep I have ever heard and despite many people coming close and discovering brilliant tunes here and there online, I still reckon he’s no1. I’ve found some brilliant talent on soundcloud such as NiT GriT, SP18, Ape Kit, Trackhed, OmegaDubstep, I could go on… Otherwise its Excision, Subvert, newer Rusko edits and stuff like that.
BEEN TO ANY SICK NIGHTS RECENTLY?:
I’m sure I have but can’t remember squat… lucky if I wake up alive after a good London dubstep nite.
WHAT PRODUCTION SOFTWARE DO YOU USE, AND YOUR SETUP:
I’m using Reason 4.0 with some M-Audio EX66 studio monitors which broke the bank. Sometimes pump stuff out of my 2 Logitech Z-5500s but the landlady says its bad for the foundations
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY:
Bigup squittybubbler!
